What is the Schlage Default User Code? [Answered]

You have probably acquired a new/previously owned Schlage keypad lock and are wondering what the default User Code for Schlage is? If that guess was correct, keep reading, as this post has the answers to your question. Let’s dive in!

Schlage does not have one known default User Code for its Electronic/Smart Locks. Each Schlage Lock comes with two unique User Codes.

In the following paragraphs, we’ll go into details on how to find the default User Codes for your Schlage Keypad Lock and how to delete/add new User Codes.

How to Find the Default User Codes for Your Schlage Lock?

As mentioned earlier, your Schlage Lock comes with two unique default User Codes. You can find the default codes on the user manual that came with your lock—printed on a white label.

You can also find the default User Codes for your Schlage Lock on the back of the keypad assembly—printed on a white label. This requires disassembling the lock. If you’ve already installed the lock on your door, you’ll need to remove it from the door.

For Schlage Encode, remove the battery cover to locate the default User Codes—beside the reset button.

How to Delete the Default User Codes?

If you want to remove the two default User Codes from your Schlage Lock, follow the steps below:

  • On the keypad, enter your Schlage Lock Programming Code (6 digits). Then wait until you see three orange lights on the lock, followed by three beeps.
  • Press the Schlage button on the keypad and press 6.  Then wait for the lock to illuminate orange three times, then beep three times.
  • Enter your Programming Code again to complete the process.
  • Now the lock will illuminate green once, then beep once. This shows the two default User Codes have been successfully deleted.

Note that this will remove the two default User Codes from your Schlage Lock at once, including all existing User Codes you added to the lock. If you have other existing User Codes in your Schlage Lock and don’t want to lose them, you’ll need to delete each code separately.

Here’s how to delete the default User Codes separately:

  • Enter your Programming Code. Then wait for the lock to illuminate orange three times, then beep three times.
  • Next, press the Schlage button and press 2. Then wait for the lock to illuminate orange and beep three times.
  • Now enter the default User Code you want to delete. Wait for the lock to illuminate orange and beep three times.
  • Re-enter the default User Code you want to delete. Next, the lock will light green and beep once, meaning the default User Code is deleted.

You can repeat the steps to delete the other default User Code.

How to Add User Codes on Your Schlage Keypad Lock?

After deleting the default User Codes, you want to add new Codes so you can lock/unlock the lock via the keypad.

That said, here’s how to add new User Codes on your Schlage Keypad Lock:

  • Enter your current Programming Code. Then wait for your Schlage Lock to illuminate orange three times and beep three times.
  • Now press the Schlage button on the keypad. Next, press 1 and wait for the lock to illuminate orange and beep three times.
  • Enter a new 4-digit User Code and wait for the lock to illuminate orange and beep three times.
  • Enter the new User Code again. Now, the lock will light green and beep once, meaning the new User Code has been added successfully.

So your new User Code is now in effect, and you can use it to unlock your door.

You can repeat the steps to add more User Codes—most Schlage Keypad Locks allow users to add up to 19 User Codes. Refer to your lock’s user manual to see the maximum number of User Codes to store in the lock.

Closing Thoughts

Unlike some electronic/smart lock brands that have one known default User Code for all of its locks, Schlage doesn’t have one default User Code. Each Schlage Lock has two unique User Codes, which can be removed by the user.

As mentioned above, you’ll need to check the user manual that came with your lock to find the default User Codes. The codes are also located on the back of the keypad assembly.

You can remove the two default User Codes and add new codes to your lock—up to 19 User Codes.

If you have acquired a previously owned Schlage Lock and the default User Codes were changed, you’ll need to reset the lock to restore the default codes. Then follow the instructions above to change the default User Codes (deleting and adding new codes).
